When preparing for an Australian student’s life and planning all the coursework, the last thing you want to do is to be unable to find a good place for your stay during the university days. We have to say that this country has some of the most expensive accommodations, but this does not mean you cannot find a good and affordable place to stay.
Budget Student Accommodation is one of the first things that you will learn about and we will start also with the accommodation on campus.
Staying on campus for international students
While staying on the campus of the university is something that many try to avoid in Australia, the universities offer the decent prices for dorms where the international students, along with the ones who live in the rural area of Australia, stay and live during their student’s days.
Yes, it is very convenient, especially for internationals who want to stay close to the university and avoid traveling by bus. However, this is one of the most expensive options as accommodation for a single semester in 2014 at Adelaide’s university did cost A$ 8,800! Well, this usually relates to the shared apartment or a separate room in an apartment, but you have the convenience of being right at the university.
Staying alone in a city or share houses
Australia is known for its great student’s life and if there is one thing that you will see often then it will be students who arrive from all around the world, looking for the place to stay. Each city has its parts where international students live and these are usually relatively close to the university.
Even though you might find it difficult to get in touch with someone there to get yourself a room, you can use Google of Facebook to make contact with a student who lives there. From there on, you can get yourself a good insight into the prices and availability for your stay. If you plan to stay off-campus in the private accommodations, expect to pay anywhere from A$ 80 to A$200 per week for a modest, likely unfurnished apartment. In case you want an apartment with furniture, the price will probably be around A$ 200 to A$ 400, depending on the apartment, location and a few other things as well.
Arranged homestay before the arrival in Australia
Depending on the arrangement, someone will stay in an Australian family for the whole time while studying there. These types of stays are arranged by the agencies prior to your arrival. Note that all other types of housing, except this one, does not include any meals, while you will have meals in case of the arranged homestay.
This is like an authentic Australian life where you will experience the traditional living, but the location is something you have to double-check. It may be a cheap (around A$ 270 per week) staying option, but the location may not be so close to the university, so keep in mind to check it before you agree.
